In 2019, after completing materials science graduate research under Professor Fatemeh Khalkhal at San Francisco State University, our founder Vicky Chen made a decision that many questioned. Instead of staying in the comfortable academic or corporate world in the US, Vicky returned to Baoji, the titanium capital of China.

The reason was a deep-seated frustration. During research and subsequent market analysis, Vicky witnessed the dark side of the global titanium trade:

  • The rampant abuse of low-quality sponge titanium.
  • The influx of recycled scrap metal that compromised critical projects.
  • The dishonest practice of passing off cheap, unregulated titanium bars as medical or aircraft Grade 5.

We refused to be part of that system. So in 2019, we partnered with a local processing veteran to establish Shaanxi Vico.
